From the specs for a tablet press

Upper punch: Circular, with bevelled edges, kαρατε
Lower punch: Circular, flat

What does kαρατε mean.?

(for info, in this machine, two punches (εμβολιδια) come together, thereby compressing material and formnig tablets)

English translation:diamond-shaped point, diamond point
Explanation:
Wild guess (or a hunch).
4-sided bevel and a diamond shaped point

Notes to answerer
Asker: I also suspect that it's a poor French transliteration but I'm not sure it's what you suggest. The bevelled edgeis on the upper half of the tablet, so a 'diamond'-like edge would not be formed. Thanks for the help in any case - i'll do more research and get back if i find the answer.
