  -> "we can see" is "βλεπουμε" and "appear" would be "φαινεται". "διακρίνεται" would be that these people "stand out" in the photo. However, this sounds like a more formal article so I thought "recognise" was more appropriate. Happy New Year to everyone!

disagree  Philip Lees: Although 'appears' may be a correct translation of 'διακρίνεται', 'In the photograph appears ..' is NOT correct English.

disagree  Dave Bindon: As a description of a photograph, 'appear' is not what would be said in English. Even your example (which is a question about a photo rather than a description) sounds odd to me. I'll (try to!) explain why in the "discussion" if you ask.
