Greek term or phrase: κρόσσια
Ξύπνησα από έναν ήλιο με πυκνά κρόσσια που έπεφτε παντού. Ακόμα και στα μάτια.

Any suggestions about the whole sentence please?

-> Ναι, fringes = και "παρυφές" και "κρόσσια", όπως αναφέρω παραπάνω. Εξ ου, ίσως, και το "tassels" (φούντες) στην ποιητική απόδοση της Κίχλης.

neutral  Peter Close: I agree with Transphy here, although κρόσσια means fringes, it is hard to use fringes in this particular context and Kyriaco was asking for a translation of the whole sentence.

neutral  Andras Mohay (X): "outburst" / "blast" πάει πολύ για τα αθώα κρόσσια. Και χάνεται η διακειμενικότητα: τα μωρά του Σεφέρη παίζουν με τα κρόσσια του ήλιου (tassels of the sun) στην Κίχλη, ενώ το κείμενο της ερώτησης παίζει με τα "κρόσσια του ήλιου" του Σεφέρη :-)

I was awoken by a thickly bordered sun which dispersed its rays everywhere.

Explanation:
Good morning Kyriako,
If κροσσιά is the plural of κρόσσι and κρόσσι means fringe, then border would seem to be a good and suitable synonym for fringe in this case. See: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/76597274.

An alternative version is:

I was awoken by a thickly bordered sun dispersing its rays everywhere.

As an alternative to dispersing, consider "shedding its rays". If you Google "sun shedding rays", you will find pleanty of examples.

Sorry, that should be "plenty of examples".

As another variant, consider: 'broadly bordered sun'. It pleases the ear more.

Corrected explanation
If κρόσσια is the plural of κρόσσι and κρόσσι means fringe, then border would seem to be a good and suitable synonym for fringe in this case, because I, personally, can’t think of a way to use the word “fringes” in this particular sentence without changing its structure substantially.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you Peter for all your help. I sincerely do appreciate it. I have actually contacted the author about this and without trying to influence him in any way his explanation was to imagine the sun wearing a hat with lots of long tassels spreading everywhere. In the light of this information, Andras' suggestion seems the closest.
