half/semi segmentation plate Explanation: I bet you know how TBM's dig underground and build tunnels as they go forward. If you've noticed, at the back of this huge ( let's call it) train, they fit to the gravel walls, specific size concrete blocks, that make a ring as they go ahead. My guess is that here they talk about the "top down method", where the tunnel isn't cylindrical but thye just dig the right side of it, secure it with concrete and columns, and then procceed to the left side.
