Greek term or phrase: κεχηνότα
This is from part of a quotation from a diary kept by an officer of the Greek Royal Navy warship, Mycale, describing the unbelievable patriotism and unselfishness of the Symiot sponge fishermen for the part they played in the recovery of the statues from the Antikythera shipwreck. The full quotation is: "Μόνο τον μικρόν εκείνον χάλκινον κεχηνότα … εάν επώλουν εις το εξωτερικόν θα ήρκει να απαλλαγούν το υπόλοιπον του βίου των των βασάνων και των κινδύνων του φοβεροτέρου των επαγγελμάτων…"

Μπαμπινιώτης also suggest it may serve as the description of a surprised look on someone's face.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you, Angeliki. I thought of that, too, because I was searching for an answer for well over an hour, but I would prefer to see if anyone else suggests any alternative before I go with that.
