Mittag ist dabei der lokale Sonnenhöchststand, wenn die Sonne genau im Süden steht (Schiffsmittag). Herausragende Etmale werden dokumentiert. Am 11. Mai 1900 fuhr der deutsche Segler Potosi (Schiff)|Potosí auf der Fahrt nach Chile ein (Zitat: "bisher nie zuvor erreichtes") Etmal von 376 Seemeilen. Die schnellsten Schiffe des 19. Jahrhunderts waren die Klipper (Schiff)|Klipper. So fuhr bereits im Dezember 1854 die Champion of the Seas ein Etmal von 465 Seemeilen. |
