Dato il contesto direi, però, che non si tratta della volta della porta/del portone in sè stessa. Per me è il tratto a volta fra la prima porta o il primo portone d'accesso alla fortezza e il successivo o uno spiazzo, come ad es. nella fortezza qui di Würzburg.
