Klaus Beyer's reference comment prompted me to check not only "cargo" for applicability, but all the packaging units and transport routes mentioned here. Because I posted a suggestion myself, I had to post the search results into the discussion.

Schäfer's Business Dictionary English-German contains the following entries

cargo (com) / Fracht, Frachtgut, Ladegut; (com) Seefracht, Schiffsladung, Kargo (syn, ocean freight)
goods (Vw) Güter (syn, commodities, resources)
freight (com, US) / Frachtgut, (ie, bei allen Beförderungsarten)
freight (com, GB) / Frachtgut, (ie, bei See- und Lufttransport)

shipment (com) / Versand, Verschiffung, Ladung (sysn, cargo, freight, load, consignment)

Unfortunately, a difference in the US/GB idioms I could only find for "freight".

"accompanying cargoes" About 535 results (0,40 seconds)

"preloading cargo" About 370 results (0,27 seconds), but
No results found for "adding cargo en route"

"Previously transported loads" About 30 results (0,35 seconds)
"Previously transported goods" About 359 results (0,38 seconds)
"Previously transported cargo" About 246 results (0,30 seconds)
and
"additional loads" About 461.000 results (0,36 seconds)
"additional goods" About 391.000 results (0,35 seconds)
"additional cargo" About 610.000 results (0,29 seconds)
