vertical climb Explanation: judging from the description, which can be found here http://www.via-ferrata.de/img-klettersteig-rosskopf-726.htm There is also a description of a Swiss via ferrata here http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/moleson-the-perfect-compleme... |

(yellow) slope Explanation: Looking at the diagram at http://www.climbers-paradise.com/klettern/location-details/l... I think it is just the part of the route marked in yellow on the map - a relatively gentle slope after the steepness of the initial climb. |

ascent Explanation: Whatever the yellow refers to, "Aufschwung" when climbing refers to an ascent. Reference: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=d5f0a... |

rock step Explanation: would be my suggestion here. This is a tricky one. I've seen it translated in many different ways - (rock) step, (rock) face, ascent, climb, incline, pull. What is certainly clear is that it refers to a section or feature of the route and that upward movement is definitely involved (almost vertical according to the map). I believe the "yellow" part refers to the colour of the rock on the route. It's quite difficult to find definitive evidence, but here are a few examples of this usage. Als die gefährlichsten Abschnitte gelten der Eisbruch, der sich stündlich verändert, und ein kurzer Steilaufschwung zwischen Süd- und Hauptgipfel, der so genannte Hillary Step. http://www.profil.at/articles/0817/560/204231/atemlos-everes... the lower part of the rock step on the Hohlaubgrat, Allalinhorn (with image) http://www.ukclimbing.com/images/dbpage.html?id=125666 The Via Ferrata, or iron roadway, would take us on an exposed scramble up the old tramway on the outside of the vertical Honister Crags. At the start - John (in yellow) has climbed the initial rock step. http://www.loweswatercam.co.uk/070811_Via_Ferrata.htm Continue climbing directly to a yellow rock step. Start from the left side and work right back to the crest http://www.summitpost.org/east-ridge/161360 The equivalent French term is "ressaut", if that's any help. Reference: some background Reference information: http://pressezone.myftp.org/at/achensee_sommer_klettern_2011... The whole article describes the are and the climbing experience; seems to be stations where you stop and either go on or walk back to the bottom /maybe upward swing would work here |
