agree  Colin Rowe: I like "plum brandy" (as a translation, I mean), but "aging" appears to get more ghits than "maturing" in conjunction with brandy

"Badische slivovitz"

Explanation:
Assuming it IS a Badische speciality, and not REAL slivovitz...

I think everyone knows that slivovitz is plum brandy, so this should be quite acceptable.

neutral  writeaway: off the marc. it's really too far west for slivovitz. Badische isn't terribly English sounding either .

neutral  Stephen Sadie: aged?? plum schnapps sounds strange too
14 mins

agree  Colin Rowe: "aged", to me, sounds like exactly the right term. I like "cask", too. I think I prefer "plum brandy" to "plum schnap(p)s", however - as a translation, I mean! ;-)
2 hrs

agree  Cetacea: damson plum. And both schnapps and brandy age--if you let them... ;-)

agree  Cetacea: I'd prefer "aged", but both terms are used.

-> Danke Cetaea. Schnaps wird (im Gegensatz zu Wein) nicht allzulange in Holzfässern gelagert. Erstfüllung in neue Fässer: max. 3-4 Monate, bei der 2. Füllung ca. 1 Jahr. Deshalb spricht man wohl nicht von *gealtert im Holzfach, sondern *gereift im Holzfass.
