Well, here's something I haven't come across yet in the world of luxury hotels! My guess is this is some kind of bejeweled fountain, but because I didn't get any hits for that, I am assuming there must be a better term out there. The hotel's website calls them "Edelsteinbrunnen", so the term fountain is acceptable. Has anyone ever heard of this? My salary does not afford such luxuries! thanks in advance!

gemstone fountain
Explanation:
Maybe it is a Fengshui 'gemstone fountain' placed in the spa?

My shot

Explanation:
Looking at the pictures, it appears that the pool area has what look like mica and such in the mosaic stones used to build them, so, based just on the pictures I might suggest

jewel-trimmed fountain or spring
decorated with jewels
set off with jewels

I thought about 'gems' but that sounds TOOOO expensive while "semi-precious stones" does not really correspond to what the German says.

Just my suggestions. Good luck with this one (gee, I sure am glad I stick with technical translations :)

gemstoned springs

Explanation:
Just out of interest, is this joint anywhere near Idar-Oberstein? I can`t imagine the rocks around where the waters gush forth being encrusted with diamonds, rubies, emeralds and all that - can`t have the guests turning up with pick-axes! - but possibly with amethysts and other semi-precious crystals that glint and sparkle in the light but aren`t worth digging out.

Gemstone covers everything that isn`t a common or garden rock, withount paying any attention to price or rarity, so you should get away with this with no problem. The addition of "ed" turns it into an adjective.

Notes to answerer
Asker: No it isn't. I was thinking more along the lines of decorated fountains, because of the website's mention of "Edelsteinbrunnen". I'm not really sure that these are springs.

crystal fountains

Explanation:
an anthropologically-based shot. The origin of the concept "Edelstein" had to do with the healing powers attributed to crystals (hence the location of precious stones on key parts of the body, such as pendants, earrings, bracelets and rings).

agree  Susan Zimmer: Just a few miles north of here, in NC, as a tourist attraction, you can mine your own gemstones. The cabachons include rubies, garnets, emerald, etc. They're not all that valuable, but pretty and are used in many decorative settings. ...

agree  Susan Geiblinger: This is what it is IMO. In Austria and Germany wherever you go at the moment all private homes also have a pitcher of "energized" water for guests with various gemstomes in the bottomof it, and I presume the same esoteric beliefs are being used in tourism
