German term or phrase: Grödeln
I know this is a device for gripping onto the ice (if you are hiking in the mountains), and I have seen a picture of them on a web page. I then found the term "ice grips" somewhere on the Internet, but, when I looked at pictures of ice grips, they did not look the same. Anyone got any suggestions, please?

agree  Textklick: Nice one Kim! Certainly not to be confused with the generic term - there would be a big difference on the Eigerwand; http://climbing.com/equipment/dmmterminator/>>You wouldn't if you were going up there, pal! ;-)

agree  volker_h: yes, the distinction between "Groedeln" and full-blown "Steigeisen" is necessary.
