Hi Friderike,

Try this verbal construction: "Wonderful Oriental smells/aromas waft through the air." or "Wonderful smells/aromas of the Orient waft through the air."

You end up losing the concept of "cloud," but then again, if the aromas are so heavy that you can literally see them you may not even want to be their! My impression is that it's more delicate than that, which could justify losing the "clouds" in translations. HTH. Cheers, R.

Further to your clarification, Friderike, if you're after alliteration, Nicole's suggestion is nice & snappy. Having said that & given some more consideration to your challenge, I could also suggest the following:

"Fragrant scents of the Orient wafting through the air"

You'll lose the cigar smells, but then again that's not always complimentary depending on your target audience. HTH further. Cheers, R.
