Some interesting points. I would expect a "carnival" to involve a procession with marching bands and baton twirlers etc., possibly but not necessarily with a fairground. To answer Spud, indeed we don't have Karneval in the UK (unless you count pancake races on Shrove Tuesday) but we do have "carnivals" of the type described above. It's a matter of establishing what these performers actually do in carnival celebrations in Germany. There is quite a difference between baton twirling and acrobatics, the main one being (presumably) that the former can be done on the march. |
