German term or phrase: Ehrenamtstour
Zehn Boxen bildeten den Ausstellungspavillon mit dem die FIFA-Ehrenamtstour im April und Mai 2006 quer durch Deutschland zog.

I think the tour involved taking the World Cup trophy around Germany but what does the "Ehrenamt" imply here?

Thanks.

Volunteers Tour
Explanation:
... is what FIFA appears to have called it:

"OC President Franz Beckenbauer also expressed his pleasure at how well-received the tour had been. He said: "The success of the FIFA Trophy and Volunteers Tour has confirmed our view that the tournament will be celebrated across the whole of Germany and not just in the 12 Host Cities."

German-language sites make it clear that this was about recognising the role of volunteer helpers.

In other words: yes, the trophy was paraded throughout Germany, accompanied by exhibitions/events to acknowledge the unpaid efforts of people involved in the sport at grassroots level.

Explanation:
like a "lap of honour", it's honouring all the volunteers in the world of amateur football that feeds the professional world so I think this would fit
