Volunteers Tour Explanation: ... is what FIFA appears to have called it: "OC President Franz Beckenbauer also expressed his pleasure at how well-received the tour had been. He said: "The success of the FIFA Trophy and Volunteers Tour has confirmed our view that the tournament will be celebrated across the whole of Germany and not just in the 12 Host Cities." http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060529/1/6zar.html German-language sites make it clear that this was about recognising the role of volunteer helpers. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 hrs (2006-07-13 06:58:45 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- In other words: yes, the trophy was paraded throughout Germany, accompanied by exhibitions/events to acknowledge the unpaid efforts of people involved in the sport at grassroots level. |
