German term or phrase: Begegnungen
This is tricky, because I need the most general term possible that would work with all sports:

Wir freuen uns mit Ihnen auf viele schöne, faire Begegnungen.

I asked the client what sport this refers to and here was their answer:
Dieser Text wird eigentlich ganz allgemein verwendet. Das heisst, manchmal geht es um ein Eishockeymatch, ein
Golftunier, Velorennen, Skirennen, etc.

Diesmal geht es um die Weltmeisterschaft der
Rettungshunde.

Any ideas? I cannot use "events" since I used that for Diese Veranstaltung: "this event"

Vielen Dank für kreative Ideen!!

I think it should still be OK. See http://www.americanbrittanyrescue.org/success/success_page_1...

But there's no reason why you can't also use "event" for this, even if you've already used it for Veranstaltung, unless it appears many times in the text and you're trying to avoid it wherever possible

agree  Francis Lee (X): absolutely; "meets" would in itself be better, but for me refers only to an all-day or -weekend event

Explanation:
How about "contests" here if this is what is meant?

agree  miccaela: Since a 'sportliche Begegnung' primarily is a 'Wettbewerb' or 'Wettkampf' (Turnier, Rennen, Match etc.), I would go for 'contest' - or preferably 'competition'. These terms get straight to the point.
