German term or phrase: Etappenpenner
This is a term coined by German friends of mine - it refers to people (like me) who sleep for, say, four hours, work for a while, take a nap again, work for a while, and so on.

This question is not related to any translation job, I am wondering if there is any English equivalent to this recently created, hilarious term.

I am looking forward to any creative suggestions!

TIA! :-)))

Thanks so much for your excellent suggestions! The snooze hopper did the trick. I would love to see this term added to Webster's Dictionary sometimes soon.

A perfect polyphasic sleeper

Explanation:
The 'perfect' part is added with tongue in cheek, of course ;-)

Peer comments on this answer (and responses from the answerer)
agree  Helen Shiner: Cat napper and power napper are not particularly humourful, but 'polyphasic sleeper' could well be used in that way - excellent, casper!/How about 'polyphasic napper' which would sum it up perfectly!/ Genau!

-> Thank you, Helen. I would've thought that 'polyphasic sleeper' per se (that is, without the qualifying 'a perfect...') sounds too clinical - doesn't it ?// Good idea, Helen :-) [KudoZ is all about teamwork, nicht wahr ?]

agree  hazmatgerman (X): Agree it sounds nice, but would it be as readily understood as the German term?

power napper

Explanation:
"Power naps" is a term that seems to have come in vogue over the last few years and it does sound slightly contradictory (all that power and someone's having a rest..). It isn't quite as brand new as the Etappenpenner term but power naps are short snoozes.
