neutral  Cetacea: Breaks or gaps are the results of the events themselves, and Faunen*schnitt* puts the emphasis on the event, rather than what doesn't shop up in fossils anymore.

agree  Darin Fitzpatrick: I disagree with Cetacea; I believe the "Schnitt" refers to the cut or gap. The original is somewhat confusing in that it makes the catastrophe identical with the gap. Actually the catastrophe is revealed or indicated by the gap.
