German term or phrase: 2.85 ar
This is from a real estate purchase agreement in Switzerland. I assume ar is Ar and one Ar equals 100 square meters. My question is should I convert 2.85 Ar to square meters?

2.85 ares

Explanation:

40a 35ca = 4035 m², 40 ares and 35 centiares

agree  alec_in_France: Yes except that (unlike hectares) "ares" are very little used in English-speaking countries. I would certainly put the sq m equivalent in brackets
