German term or phrase: Formzuschnitt
Formzuschnitte (auch Stegzuschnitte oder Inlay genannt) bilden ein Gefache, welches das Produkt in einer definierten Form hält.

I have inherited a glossary with 'form cut' for this term, but I'm not totally convinced, I can't find any examples of this term in use in English - this German website is the closest http://formcut.de/services/

Explanation:
The answer is there in the question.

You haven't given the full context, but you mention packaging. I assume this is a box containing an inlay of a different shape, which in turn contains the unspecified product - for example, a rectangular cardboard box with an oval plastic inlay containing an Easter egg.

The fact that they use three words for it in German doesn't mean you have to in your translation. For "Formzuschnitte (auch Stegzuschnitte oder Inlay genannt)", I'd just say "inlays".

Reference: Stegzuschnitt (Kartonzuschnitt)

Reference information:
