According to my source document:

Durch drehen des Objekttellers können im doppelt polarisierten Licht die Einzelmineralien anhand ihrer Färbung bestimmt werden.

I'm not familiar with "double polarised light" and suspect it either means "plane polarised light" or "cross polarised light".
