"Das konische Sleevesystem für Druck- und Prägeapplikationen besteht im Wesentlichen aus dem expandierenden Basiskern, dessen Ballen eine Konizität aufweist. Auf diese konische Oberfläche wird eine Hartchromschicht aufgebracht, die hochpräzise geschliffen und poliert wird. Die Druck- oder Prägesleeves werden dann auf diesen so vorbereiteten Basiskern aufgeschoben und expandierend fest gespannt. Hierdurch werden die Sleeves fest in ihrer Position gehalten. Talking about a sleeve change calender used with printing and embossing machines (or something like that). I can't make head or tail of "expandierend fest gespannt". Well, I suppose gespannt is tightened or something, but not sure what "fest" is meaning here exactly, and expandierend as an adverb is mystifying in the extreme. TIA for your help.

I pretty much went with this, especially as it had peer grade support, but I said "securely held" rather than "securely gripped", although I don't really agree with Alexander that the latter was "obscene". But anyway, that cleared up the meaning pretty nicely, so thanks Bernd, peer graders and Alexander - appreciate everyone's assistance.
