ballet d'action Explanation: I think the French term is used in the English-speaking ballet world. At any rate, it is defined in the dictionary below as a ballet that tells a story, often tragic. action ballet (ballet d'action) Explanation: I am not an expert, but this term would seem to fit the German, which itself is most likely a translation from the French.
