German term or phrase: Ernährungshandwerk
I am darned if I can come up with an English equivalent to this ("individual producers and retailers of food and drink" is pretty clumsy) The reference is to the percentage of iodised salt:

"im Ernähungshandwerk liegt der Jodsalzanteil bei 60 bis 85 Prozent"

Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.

Explanation:
How about that? Or do you have to be more specific? Then I would keep your idea.

Supermarkets are not included in Ernährungshandwerk. Talking about food sector or industry I also wouldn't think about supermarkets but producers. But talking about the use of iodised salt, nobody would think of supermarkets, would they? So without knowing more content I would think that you can go with food sector or industry.

Asker: Thanks indeed but isn't that too general, including e.g. factories making food , which "Ernährungshandwerk" (I think) does not?

Notes to answerer
Asker: "Food sector" sounds good but if I understand the term correctly it refers to producers and retailers who do not have their own multiple outlets supermarkets , hypermarkets. If that is the case then it still looks as though my clumsy translation is the most accurate although yours is much more elegant. Am I right that Ernährungshandwerk excludes supermarkets?
