Full salary for up to four weeks during standard military service within a calendar year (including business schools attended in order to obtain all enlisted officer ranks and the rank of lieutenant, as well as the X of this rank).

---

I'm translating a Swiss contract and these are some of the provisions for the continued payment of an employee's salary in the event of military service. Normally 'abverdienen' would translate as 'to serve', but I don't quite understand what it means in this context.

Oh, and business schools for enlisted officer ranks?

Explanation:
Switzerland
In the Swiss Army, a company commander is called a Kompaniekommandant (abbreviated Kp Kdt). In practical service, a Kompaniekommandant has the rank of lieutenant until graduating from Führungslehrgang or FLG (Leadership course) 1 and completing Abverdienen (practical service), at which point they are promoted to captain. A Kompaniekommandant who leads a Stabskompanie can be promoted to major.
