"Will man ein optimales Ergebnis bei gleichzeitger Schonung des Patienten und dessen Zahnhartsubstanz erzielen, so sind einige Regeln einzuhalten:

l Verwenden Sie die stärkste ***Absaugstufe***.
l Decken Sie die Lippen mit einem feuchten Gazetuch ab.
l Der Abstand zum Zahn sollte zirka drei bis vier Millimeter betragen.
l Richten Sie den Pulver-Wasser-strahl auf das mittlere und inzisale Drittel und die Sprührichtung nach inzisal.
l Folgende Angulationen sind korrekt:
60 Grad für Frontzähne
80 Grad für Seitenzähne
90 Grad für okklusale Flächen.
l Arbeiten Sie von Approximalraum zu Approximalraum.
l Besprühen Sie den Zahn je ein bis zwei Sekunden.
l Spülen Sie zwischendurch immer wieder mit Wasser.
l Vermeiden Sie längere Kontaktzeiten mit dem Wurzelzement oder dem Dentin.
l Kompositfüllungen und Keramikrestaurationen müssen möglichst gemieden oder entsprechend geschützt werden.

Nur so werden Schäden an der Zahnhartsubstanz vermieden und der Patient nicht von dem salzig schmeckenden Natriumbikarbonat „eingenebelt“. Keinesfalls verringert die richtige Anwendung der Technik die Effizienz. Beachtet man diese Spielregeln, so bietet das Airpolishing eine sehr wertvolle Hilfe in der Prophylaxe."

From a text about air polishing. Up to now, it's been pretty straightforward, but I've hit the wall at "Absaugstufe". Something to do with suction, obviously, but what does the "Stufe" bit mean here? TIA for your help.
