Aufklappung is normally translated as "flap operation" or "flap procedure". This is supported by both Bucksch and the online FDI Dental Glossary. But to me, that doesn't make sense here. It seems to me the Aufklappung is denoting a physical object here - maybe the flap itself? Does it look that way to you too? Otherwise, how do you make sense of it? TIA for your help.

Osteotomie
engl.: osteotomy; Durchtrennung bzw.

Thanks everyone. I think it probably is just "flap", and this answer plus the peer endorsements confirm my feelings. MMUlr's suggestion was a most interesting one, but I'm not convinced that "ABklappen" and "AUFklappung" are the same things. Thanks anyway. Appreciate everyone's help.

Aufklappung (here)
reflected tissue / reflected flap / reflected gingiva (?)

Explanation:
Abklappen eines Lappens or Abklappen der Gingiva is "(to) reflect"
So I choose this translation. If the gingiva had been reflected, then why not say it directly: "... from underneath (?) the reflected gingiva".
