Bettecho

English translation: Bedside ultrasound

German to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical: Cardiology / EKG
German term or phrase: Bettecho
From a medical report: the patient has, among others, severe symptomatic mitral regurgitation and is treated with a MitraClip procedure. However, first of all, he is given several echocardiographies. Under one of them, it says, on a line on its own

Bettecho.

No other information. Then it continues with "Normal großer linker Ventrikel...."

Does this mean the ECG was taken with the patient in bed? But why doesn't it say that on the others? This particular ECG is taken on Day 13 of a 3-week hospital stay. I couldn't find any references to this anywhere.

Very grateful for your help, as always!

agree  Anne Schulz: @Bettina: Kann mir eigentlich keine andere Interpretationsmöglichkeit vorstellen (auch wenn es deiner Beschreibung nach möglicherweise Unsinn ist, nur eins von mehreren Echos so zu etikettieren)

neutral  Lirka: I'm giving a neural since it should read "bedside CARDIAC ultrasound" or echocardiography. This is an important addition that changes the meaning, but I won't post it as a separate answer.

basic echo

Explanation:
"das Bett" also means "base", so I searched base echocardiogram, and found basic echo/echocardiogram.

I have done some more reading and found this site: https://echopraxis.com/basic-echo/ it seems that the two terms, "basic echo" and "bedside echo" are used interchangeably.

Example sentence(s):
  • Principles of basic echo in critical care.
  • Basic echo – normal heart.
