I'm sometimes not sure what to leave in the original German. In this case, no further context, just a list.

Kulturland Oberösterreich (which I've translated as Upper Austria)

In the same vein, I've got
"Landesmuseum Linz", would you translate that as "Linz State Museum" or leave it alone?

and

Landesmuseen = Landesmuseums/State museums??

Why not ask the customer, Robert. As we see here, the term as it stands is ambiguous. It'd at least be good to know if they mean cultural tradition/history or current goings-on - or both.

The general idea is that of a traditional geographic area of region with a rich cultural tradition (sometimes used in contrast to places of more recent origin). I've also heard it used to refer to tourist regions e.g. Wachau, Mostviertel.

I would not ask the customer, he or she probably would not be able to define it either. "Kulturland" has become sort of a slogan in tourism marketing (cf. Wanderland, Schiparadies, Sonnenregion...).

As I understand it, Kulturland is in the virtual sense, i.e. referring to cultural events etc. in that region. I'd ask the customer about the context of the term "Kulturland".

At first glance at your suggestions (looking at the first 3) I think I should point out that Kulturland is a "thing" not descriptive in this case:

personally I\'d keep Oberösterreich in the title at least and introduce it as Upper Austria somewhere in the text. that\'s just my opinion. Leave the name of the Museum in German-it\'s a provincial museum. this is a province of Austria....

Lancashireman: 'province' has unfortunate connotations for an English reader. 'provincial' = 'lacking cultural flair'. And you are quite right that it would be discourteous to enter a comment to what a peer has said without reading it first.

Francis Lee (X): nothing wrong with gfish's "land", and "province" just sounds outdated in modern Europe (something the Upper Austrian authorities possibly don't know) // with all respect, Silvia, surely it's more important what WE call your Bundesländer?
