I'm talking about the software used to manipulate or edit pictures/images.

According to Leo, which confirmed what I was thinking. "Bearbeitung" often means "editing" in an IT context.

Dicdata (www.dicdata.de) also says \"image editing\".

Image processing is not beyond the realms of possibility, though.

agree  Caro McL: depends on the context and you need to ensure that "image processing" doesn't get confused with processing of film, "graphics editing" is the term we would use in localisation for manipulation of screen shots, mocking up artwork etc.
