agree  jccantrell: I thought anti-aliasing WAS smoothing, or am I just again seeing German tell what the English is for?

-> My shot at it from Germany ;-) Well, take a look at how Grundspannung was used in the other question, or "in die Kamera eingebaute CCD". It's marketing gibberish...

agree  Gareth McMillan: I think this answer is dead right. But anti-aliasing is EXTREMELY important in CAD programmes. Because a lot of people don't knoew what it is, "smooting " explains this, so it has to stay in the text.
1 hr

agree  Michael Roberts: Anti-aliasing is really a technique used to *achieve* smoothing. So the phrase isn't just marketingese.

agree  invguy: Also fully support what Michael said. Anti-aliasing is a technique that adds pixels with intermediate colour values around sharp edges during various pixel recalculations (resampling, colour mode change, vector-to-bitmap transformation etc.)
3 hrs

agree  Lori Dendy-Molz: Yes, keep the smoothing.
