agree  Helen Shiner: 'Pay newspaper' sounds unlikely, but as you say, it is used, but why not 'newspaper for sale' / 'free newspaper'?

-> Yes, in this case the context would rule out any misunderstanding. My only caveat is that it's a bit like "retail newspaper", which is sometimes used to distinguish a paper from a "subscription newspaper".

Newspaper / Free Newsletter

Explanation:
generally, when you refer to a newspaper, you are referring to a Newspaper you have to pay for. A Newsletter, or 'free newsletter' makes the distinction clear.

If you must put emphasis on the fact that there is a charge for the Newspaper, I would recommend you say, "Newspaper for a charge vs. Free Newsletter".

paid-for newspaper/freesheet

Explanation:
These seem to me to be the terms used in the media.

In different inquiries, national newspapers have been found to be distinct from regional and local newspapers. Paid-for newspapers have usually been found to be a different market from free-sheets from the perspective of readers, but not necessarily for advertisers.

But rising freesheet circulations continued to hit Associated's London afternoon paid-for newspaper, the London Evening Standard. Its average daily circulation in November dropped by 3.4% to 272,448 copies a day. In June of this year the paper was selling 309,908, having since lost 37,460 readers.

neutral  TonyTK: "dailies" is too specific.

-> By all means replace "dailies" with "newspapers" if dailies is unacceptable within the context
