German term or phrase: Eigenvermarktung
I've tried to parse this term but without success. Basically, what it means in my context is "do-it-yourself marketing": Manchester United (just an example) decided to terminate its relationship with an agency and henceforth handle all marketing and PR activities using in-house resources. Proprietary marketing, in-house marketing, self-marketing ... nothing sounds right. Suggestions highly appreciated. TIA - Erich

corporate self-marketing
Explanation:
In view of the fact that "self-marketing" generally refers to individuals, this might be an option.

The drawback is that "corporate self-marketing" could quite conceivably be performed by an external provider. The advantage (at least to my ears) is that it doesn't sound as stitled as "self-promotion" (which I don't think is the same thing anyway) and can be used in your context (which the admittedly superior "... handles its own ..." can't).

Thanks to your rationale, I came to the conclusion that self-marketing can apply to individuals and businesses alike, and Google corroborates that the term is indeed used in the SME context, so ultimately, any entity with an in-house marketing department can self-market itself ... much obliged.
