It should be "strip" rather than "band" here. I gather that "Bandkante" refers to the lateral edges of the strip that are welded together to form the tube (or pipe). On the website mentioned above, this process is mentioned under "High frequency welding". If the ends of coils were welded together, they would be referred to as "Bandenden".

yes, that's it, thank you (a welding technician speaks also of "vee adges" - as the "Bandkanten" in welded tube production are conformed to a "Schlitzrohr")

Explanation:
The "band" is strip steel (which is used to make the pipes). During rolling the individual steel coils are welded together to give a continuous strip. It is extremely important that the ends (= edges = Kanten) are correctly aligned otherwise there will be problems during further rolling processes
