How is it that a word with thousands upon thousands of Google hits has no entry in any bilingual dictionary? I find that seriously bizarre. "Fach" words often trouble me - they "fach" me off, as it were - and I'm just not sure what exactly a "Fachgesellschaft" would be. Specialist society? Society of experts? TIA for your assistance - let's at least get this word in the ProZ glossary!

I want to add that \"scientific\" is not related to \"Zahnmedizin\", but to \"Fachgesellschaft\".

The German societies probably are:
1. Deutsche Gesellschaft für Laserzahnheilkunde DGL

So the name of a Fachgesellschaft itself is noch \"Fach-\", but simple \"society\".

Thank you all for some excellent answers. In the end, I felt that MMULr's case for "societies" was a compelling one, and it has duly convinced me. I also really appreciated the additional discussion about the "Fach" prefix in this answer. But I thought "associations" was pretty good too. Explanation:
In your case perhaps "laser dentistry association". I think the Fach- doesn't have to be translated because "laser dentistry" is specific enough to make clear that it's no leisure club.
