'Reichensteuer' (tax on rich people/tax on the rich/tax on high incomes)
Explanation:
This is **NOT** the same as Vermögensteuer!!

Rather, it's a surtax that will be applied to incomes above EUR 250k (single persons) or EUR 500k (couples who have opted for joint assessment). Also known as 'Meistzahlersteuer' and, more colloquially (and accurately), as 'Neidsteuer'.

My suggestion is to keep the German term and add an English explanation in parentheses.

  -> Depends on how you define HNWI, I suppose. Some of our clients have a lower limit of EUR 5m there. But there again, there are politicians here who claim that >EUR 70k is "besserverdienend". Pathetic....
