What is the difference between the Arbeitssicherheitsgesetz (ASiG) and the Arbeitsschutzgesetz (ArbSchG)? Both terms appear in the preamble of a contract. Which one would be translated with Occupational Health & Safety Act, and what is the other one?

I've seen both words translated this way. However, osha.europa.de gives "Occupational Health and Safety Act" for Arbeitsschutzgesetz and "Occupational Safety Act" for Arbeitssicherheitsgesetz.

Law on safety at work / Law on safety and health at work


Explanation:
These are the English translations used by the European Court of Justice in proceedings brought against Germany which involved both pieces of legislation and hence where it was important to distinguish between the two.

If you look at the full title of the two German statutes, it is clear that the Arbeitsschutzgesetz addresses both health and safety. The Arbeitssicherheitsgesetz is primarily on safety and safety experts.

If you don't like the wording "Law on ...." obviously "Act" can be substituted.

The reference should show the judgment in German and English in parallel. HTH.
