Ich habe mir überlegt, Postille einfach in Anführungszeichen stehen zu lassen, da ich auch auf deutschen Webseiten keine Hinweise fand, was dieses Wort eigentlich bedeutet.

I'm with Frosty on this one! Since the link I provided above does not seem to be clickable, so I'm posting my findings here; but it's really just an Agree to his answer ;)

In 1961 many nations joined to create a simplified method of “legalizing” documents for universal recognition. This group of nations is known as the Hague Convention. They adopted a document referred to as an APOSTILLE that is internationally recognized by all member nations.

What is the difference between legalization and authentication?
Legalization is the certification by the foreign embassy or consulate of the country where the document will be used. An Authentication is the official signature certification process of the U.S. Department of State. Some state and county offices also refer to their certification process as an authentication. Authentication can be accomplished by a Notary, Clerk of the Court, and/or the Department of State, depending on what the foreign country requires.

agree  Derek Gill Franßen: Yes to your explanation, but why not just correct the typo in the original (it's definitely not "Postille" - IMHO) and use "Apostille" in the translation - it's standard jargon (I've seen it used on many English docs meant for German authorities)? ;-)
