I have this sentence in an operating procedure for monitoring target funds:

„Soweit die Rücknahmebedingungen eines Zielfonds vorsehen, dass nicht umgehend *Kasse aufgebaut* werden kann, werden diese Positionen in Zielfonds als eingeschränkt liquide bzw. illiquide eingestuft.“

I understand that as establishing cash positions but I’m not sure if I’m on the right track. Can anyone help?

Also, fund managers who invest in property often hold cash as these transactions take time. However, sometimes redemption of shares has (time-related) conditions attached that do not allow this, so from a risk-management point of view the 'assets' they hold are classed as illiquid or having limited liquidity - depending on the time-frame for redemption. agree  philgoddard: I agree with your explanation, but I don't think "build up cash" works in the context. It basically means "cannot immediately be liquidated/switched to cash".

  -> I agree with you Phil, that's why I initially posted it as a discussion, I was more answering Sanni's question, than proposing a translation - it would depend on the rest of the context, and how she has translated the whole sentence...
