Leine brash Explanation: Schotter=brash 30 to 300 millimeter in diameter Kies=gravel is the class below in terms of size One of the things I actually seem to remember from my days at the school of "Erdwissenschaften" at the University in Göttingen, Lower Saxony. I am pretty sure about the differentiation between Schotter und Kies. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 hrs (2014-01-07 16:41:26 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Ein Bestandteil von Schotter ist Kies, aber es kommen noch andere Bestandteile hinzu, die größer sind, und einer anderen Klasse angehören. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schotter Example sentence(s):

Leine gravels Explanation: Named after the river Leine that flows through Hanover in Lower Saxony -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 21 mins (2014-01-07 12:00:43 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Mentioned here as gravels of the Leine: http://tinyurl.com/o5logbf 1) Gestalt und Alter pleistozäner Schotterkörper der Leine-Niederung Die erste Detailkartierung der Leine-Schotterkörper im Gebiet um Göttingen stammt von HECK (1928). -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 24 mins (2014-01-07 12:03:57 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The Leine valley (Leinetal) is commercially important as a source of gravel and sand for the building industry. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 44 mins (2014-01-07 12:23:43 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The Leineschotter (Leine-Schotter) is mentioned quite often in this pdf: http://tinyurl.com/qyte9x5 -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day6 hrs (2014-01-08 17:41:29 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- A bit of gravel trivia: Gravel sizes can vary dramatically, being anywhere from 1/8th of an inch (.32 centimeters) in diameter, up to 4 inches (10.16 centimeters) in diameter. Though these various types of gravel may be quite different, they all serve important functions. Size #10 gravel is typically considered to be the smallest of all gravel sizes, and generally is used as a base in paving. In contrast, size #57 gravel is used in the creation of retaining walls. Size #1 gravel is the largest of all gravel sizes, and is used primarily as a form of decoration in yards and parks. The smallest of all gravel sizes is size #10, which is also commonly known as screenings gravel. This gravel is typically around 1/8th of an inch (.32 centimeters) in diameter, making it similar in appearance to coarse sand. Often, screenings gravel is used as the base for bricks, paving stones, and other similar items. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day6 hrs (2014-01-08 17:43:24 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravel |
