German term or phrase: Bohrspülprobe
In the CV of a palaeontologist/geologist:
"Mikropaläontologische Auswertung von Bohrspülproben" and "Geochemische Aufbereitung von Bohrspülproben". I've found the expression "wash drilling", so perhaps these are samples obtained by wash drilling?

drilling mud sample; drilling fluid sample
Explanation:
Bohrspülung is - at least in gas wells - drilling mud or drilling fluid, so my suggestion may be the answer you're looking for! (Perhaps "wash drilling", which I don't know, is used in other types of wells or drilling activities.)

agree  Alan Johnson: Drilling mud sample is correct. If the context is clear enough, you can also simply use "mud sample"
