I have translated "Gründe" so far as "valley floor" but in fact "Tal" is never mentioned, so I am not sure if this is the right word but can't think of a better one.

Possibly significant that both of the above Elbsandsteingebirge-related references put Gründe in inverted commas / quote marks / corporal stripes, suggesting that the term is localised, i.e. unique to the region.
