German term

Einschreiben, die nur eingeworfen werden

German to English Bus/Financial General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters Mail
This is all the context I have:

Einschreiben (außer Einschreiben, die nur eingeworfen werden) müssen persönlich in Empfang genommen werden.

"Einschreiben" is registered mail. From what I understand, all registered mail has to be handed over in person. What is the exception here?

Does this mean something like registered mail the gets inserted into a secured mailbox?

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Adrian MM.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Registered mail deposited in the letterbox/without confirmation of receipt

In Germany, there are two types of registered mail. One that gets put jnto the letterbox (confirmation of receipt = date of receipt I think) and registered mail with confirmation of receipt (where the recipient has to sign).
The first is controversial in some areas (e.g. invoices for tenants' ancillary costs), but still legal.

No secure mailboxes.

Perfect. Thanks for the quick answer :)

Registered mail, which is not signed for on delivery

It states that if mail must be signed for as soon as it has arrived at its delivery address then it must be received in person.
Example sentence:

Einschreiben die nur eingeworfen werden mussen persönlich in Empfong genommen werden.

Peer comment(s):

disagree insighted : Bitte das richtige Abschreiben üben! (mussen, Empfong). Oder: copy & paste

mail which is tracked but not signed for

Registered/recorded delivery are used interchangeably in English, but there are different schemes e.g. with the Royal Mail in the UK that you can choose from according to whether you want it tracked and signed for or just tracked.

In German, it looks like there are also different categories:
Normales Einschreiben vs. Einwurf-Einschreiben, where the delivery is recorded but a signature is not required (further info in the link below)

Answer with the additional context:

Recorded deliveries (aside from mail which is tracked but not signed for)

agree philgoddard : I think this works better because (a) it's more concise and (b) there may not be a letterbox

Thank you
neutral writeaway : tracked post/packages are not necessarily sent via registered mail

I hope this is a concise way to get the difference across when the postage systems are not directly comparable anyway
