German term or phrase: Mädchenvorgesetzte
From a Dienerblatt about a missionary who went on to being a Verkaufs-Schwester im Schwesternhaus and then went on to working in the Diasporadienst

headmistress of a girls' school
Explanation:
Mention of the diaspora (and Schwestern in your other query) led me to the Moravians. The headmistress or principal of a school was called a Vorgesetzte on several Web sites about Moravians, including the one I've given. Also Heath's German-English/English-German dictionary (1888) gives "principal" as a translation of "Vorgesetzte."

Thank you very much, Ann! You are indeed right; this was about Moravians and and I'm grateful for your very astute insight/instincts on both this and the other question.

Mädchenvorgesetzte
girls' counsellor

Explanation:
In view of my previous answer and assuming that this was a Bethel deaconess home or a similar institution, I assume she had the responsibility of counselling or overseeing resident girls training for service, something akin to a dormitory counsellor, whereby the guidance aspect would have been important.
