German term or phrase: Ghost-Modell
Schade.

It can't be as simple as *Ghost Model* can it? That just doesn't sit right with me? Is anyone up on their video game terminology?

It's got to be something with 'ghost', however this is understood by the writer. I think your suggestion of 'version' for 'Modell' is promising. Alternatively, you could consider 'simulation' (as suggested on your other question).

Notes to answerer
Asker: I understood this to mean that, you can have a "ghost version" of your car drive in the race, but you aren't actually participating. Your car is transparent. Does this sound about right? If so, I don't think this term is applicable.

Asker: I want to avoid using version, because there is a program for computers called "Ghost Version". This could cause confusion.

mock model

Explanation:
since not the "real thing" is expected, mock model sounds more appropriate than "gost model"
