German term or phrase: auffälligen Führungen
This is a description of a pair of tailor's scissors. "Die ergonomische Form mit gebogenem Halm und langem Griffauge sowie die *auffälligen Führungen* ermöglichen einen ruhigen Gang und eine gerade Schnittführung."

I have no idea what Führungen could be in the context of scissors. Any ideas?

clearly visible guides
Explanation:
The only thing I can think these must be are guides of some kind. I've referenced two patent applications for scissors, one in German and one in US English (you'll see that the US patent is actually cited within the German one as a similar example). The German invention includes 'Führungen' and the US one a 'guide attachment'. There's also a picture with the US patent, which does provide some clarification.

I assume auffällig simply means that the guides are clearly visible to the tailor (maybe painted a different colour or something?). There's probably a less clunky way of saying this but nothing is popping immediately into my head!

Also, if you hadn't already spotted it, this page might help you with some of the other terms: http://www.whiteley.co.uk/user_guide.html

I'm actually feeling a bit more certain about my answer the more I look into it. But I'll leave it to my peers to bump up the confidence rating (or not!) :-)
