floor from which the hops are extracted from the kiln Explanation: The lowest level in a hops kiln is the level from which the dried hops are extracted (see links below; page 235 in the book). I believe Auszugshorde is simply referring to this fact. I would translate the second part of the sentence as: "where the lowest level / floor is where the hops are extracted from (the kiln)." -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2014-10-01 22:49:31 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "Extraction floor" would also work here but is more vague. unloading tray/unloading floor/removal floor/drawer Explanation: In an industrial hop drying system with multiple levels, the floors are usually called trays - the first in the drying process is the loading tray and the last is the unloading tray. In a atraditional oast house, green hops are loaded onto the top floor, which has movable battens. Halfway through the drying process, the floor is tilted and the hops drop to the next lower level and the top floor is reloaded. This lower level may be fitted with trays to make unloading easier. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oast_house These links may be interesting: http://appellationbeer.com/blog/hops-now-you-see-them-now-yo... which mentions a drawer for removing the dry hops and also describes the drying floors in one case as beds This PDF shows a three-floor hop dryer (PDF page 34) with "hop removal by moving fabric floor" http://tinyurl.com/odnap2p Page 49 shows drawers (drying trays) |
