German term or phrase: (Elektrischen) Kontakt unterbrechen
Es geht um die Beschreibung einer Auto-Alarmanlage:

"Die Sirene ertönt, sobald der Kontakt unterbrochen wird."

Bei dem Kontakt handelt es sich um einen Türkontakt.
Für "unterbrechen" gibt es in einschlägigen Wörterbüchern viele Vorschläge, ich bin mir aber nicht sicher, welche Übersetzung hier am treffendsten wäre.

I can only give points to one answer, but both "interrupt" and "break" would have been possible. I ended up using "interrupt".

(Power) interrupt

Explanation:
(Power) interrupt - This is a regular usage, in other dialects people may use other terms. Also known as Regelschalter ( regulator - usually highvoltage , once set these devices can be also locked to be monitored)

Explanation:
The alarm sounds as soon as the contact is opened. An alternative to Stephen's suggestion which would be ".. contact is broken". I would be happy with either of these.
