German term or phrase: Profilierungsbereich
Googling around on this, it seems to come up quite often in describing the syllabus for various postgraduate courses. The obvious translation is "profiling" but that doesn't mean much in English. I have seen it translated as "specialist" and that seems a bit more promising. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The student must also present a "Profilierungsseminar"

I know that these are different words but I think they give a background to the way "profilierung" is being used here.

I ended up going with this as there is a connection to the client. It is an extremely vague term (similar/equivalent to the Basel one) but I suppose everyone uses corporate speak now. :)

Electives

Explanation:
Explanation:
I think this would be the normal term in US English. There are undergraduate and post graduates electives (and high school electives, of course).

Compare these two explanations:

"Electives offered during the third and fourth years of medical school allow you to be self-directed and to explore career-enhancing or personally rewarding clinical, research, and other relevant experiences at Mount Sinai and around the world. Clinical electives can be found in the course catalog." https://icahn.mssm.edu/education/students/registrar/elective...

Notes to answerer
Asker: I really like the sound of this but unfortunately the course also has "Wahlpflichtmodulen" which I see are generally translated as electives...

disagree  oa_xxx (X): read the bangor.ac.uk link, has nothing to do with profilierungsbereich - a personal development seminar?
