Diplomverteidigung I am not sure if diploma defense is right. I found it, too, but it sounds really "translated". I couldn't find it on sites with English origin.
By the way, I mean the Diplomverteidigung at a University of Applied Sciences (FH).

Just another suggestion.... this was what it was called when I had to defend mine :-)
